Having broken free from her own abusive marriage, Dot IkwerreGirl Acheru shares her personal story of domestic abusive and the traumatic effect it has on children – the silent watchers – who are immersed in the devastation and trauma.  Offering advice, coping strategies and most importantly how to plan an exit, Silent Watchers is both hard hitting and a lifeline to those needing support

Bravely putting her head above the literary parapet, Dot IkwerreGirl Acheru’s resilience and determination to help those in similar situations to the one she experienced shines through on every page of her book, Silent Watchers.

Sharing her own personal and traumatic story, as well as the harrowing tales of others, the author’s focus is the irreparable impact that domestic violence has on children from abusive relationships.

Advising that her book shouldn’t be read or viewed by anyone under the age of eighteen, Silent Watchers is hard hitting and graphic. But with domestic abuse affecting one in four women and one in six men in their life* it is the author’s hope that sharing her story will encourage others in similar situations to wake up to their situation, understand that escape is possible and save themselves and their children.

As Dot IkwerreGirl Acherusays: “We all have a story. Own it, share it! You are not alone and we are definitely stronger together.”

Synopsis:

It all started as a very warm friendship that eventually ended in marriage; once those dotted lines were signed, I was trapped and nothing on earth would have prepared me for the turmoil I was to experience.

My ex-spouse’s subtle unveiling as an abuser who thrived on control and subjection, created a dark wanton aura in the home which I never understood as Domestic Violence.

This book is a non-chronological narrative which recounts the horrors of domestic violence/abuse and its adverse effects on children over and above the primary receiver: the partner. It proffers solutions on both how to cope when found in such situations, and how to eventually make a safe exit for the sake of the wellbeing of the children-THE SILENT WATCHERS.

The author says:

“When I share on domestic violence, I take no hostages because I do not want anyone or their children to experience any of the things I had to live through. I will continuously shout about it; being the voice of many voiceless men, women and children out there.
This book is an expose of the disregarded damages of domestic violence on children whom I have dubbed, for the purpose of this book,  ‘Silent Watchers’."
